GranthVaniPrivacy Policy
Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 26, 2026 · Last updated: October 31, 2026
In plain words
- We do not sell your data, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
- Your account data is stored in our database in India (Mumbai).
- Nothing is sent to the AI service until you agree in the app, and every answer is marked as AI-generated.
- We never store your PIN, only a salted one-way hash of it.
- Sign in with Google uses only the basic openid, email and profile scopes. We do not save your Google profile picture.
- You can delete your account in the app: Profile > Delete account.
- Questions about your data: support@granthvani.com. We reply within 30 days. The full policy below is what applies.
1. Who we are
GranthVani ("we", "our", "us") makes the GranthVani app for iPhone and Android and the website granthvani.com (together, the "Service"). This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, who processes it for us, how long we keep it, and how you can delete it.
We do not sell your data, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Contact: support@granthvani.com. This policy is effective from October 26, 2026.
2. Your account: mobile number, PIN and SMS code
- You sign up with an Indian mobile number. We send a one-time code by SMS (through our SMS provider) to confirm the number when you create an account or reset your PIN.
- You then sign in with your mobile number and a PIN you choose. We never store the PIN itself, only a salted one-way hash of it.
- We keep your mobile number to identify your account. One-time codes expire after a few minutes; we keep a record that a code was used for 30 days to stop it being used twice.
- To protect sign-in from abuse we keep anonymous counts of sign-in attempts and outcomes (no mobile number in them).
- You can also choose to sign in with Google or, on iPhone, with Apple. What we receive and do then is described in sections 3 and 4.
3. Google user data (Sign in with Google)
This section applies if you choose Continue with Google in the GranthVani app. GranthVani asks Google only for the basic sign-in scopes openid, email and profile.
What we access
- Your basic Google profile: your name and your email address (and the unique, non-secret account ID that Google gives us to recognise you next time). We use the email only if Google says it is verified.
- Google's
profilescope also covers your profile picture. We do not save or use your Google profile picture. - We do not access your Gmail, Google Drive, Contacts, Calendar or any other Google service or data, and we do not ask Google for ongoing access. We receive your details once, when you sign in.
How we use it
- Only to create your GranthVani account, sign you in to it, and show your name in the app. We use your email as a contact address for your account.
- We never join accounts by email address. If you already have a GranthVani account, Google sign-in is linked to it only after you confirm with your mobile number and PIN.
- When you first use Google sign-in we may also ask you to confirm an Indian mobile number once, with an SMS code (see section 2).
Where it is stored
- Your name, your email address and your Google account ID are stored in our database in India (Mumbai), as part of your account.
- The sign-in token that Google gives the app is checked on our server. We do not keep the token itself. We keep only a one-way fingerprint of it for a short time, so that the same token cannot be used twice. We do not receive or keep a Google password, or a Google access or refresh token.
Who we share it with
- We do not sell Google user data, and we do not use it for advertising, including personalised or interest-based ads.
- We do not transfer it to anyone except the service providers that run GranthVani for us (section 8), and only as needed to provide sign-in, or where the law requires it.
- Our staff do not read it, except with your permission (for example when you ask support for help), where needed to investigate abuse or protect the Service, or where the law requires it.
Retention and deletion
- We keep it while your account exists. Deleting your account (in the app under Profile > Delete account, or by writing to support@granthvani.com) deletes it with the rest of your account data (section 11).
- In the app you can also unlink Google sign-in from your account under Linked accounts.
- You can remove GranthVani's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Google API Services User Data Policy
GranthVani's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. Sign in with Apple (iPhone)
This section applies if you choose Sign in with Apple in the GranthVani app on iPhone.
- What we receive: your Apple account ID for GranthVani, your name (Apple sends it only the first time, and only if you choose to share it), and your email address. If you pick Apple's "Hide My Email", the email is a private relay address and we never see your real one.
- How we use it: only to create your account, sign you in and show your name in the app. We never join accounts by email address; linking to an existing GranthVani account needs your mobile number and PIN.
- Apple token: to let you remove the link later, as Apple requires, our server exchanges Apple's one-time code for a token and stores it encrypted. It is used only to tell Apple to cancel the link when you unlink Apple or delete your account.
- Storage and sharing: stored in our database (India region) with your account. Not sold, not used for advertising, and not shared except with the service providers in section 8. As with Google, we may ask you to confirm an Indian mobile number once.
- Deleting: when you delete your account, the Apple link is cancelled at Apple within minutes and the data above is deleted with your account (section 11). You can also unlink Apple in the app, or stop using Sign in with Apple for GranthVani in your iPhone settings (Apple ID > Sign-In & Security > Sign in with Apple).

- Language, kids mode, interests and other preferences

- Bookmarks, reading and listening progress, naam jap and mala counts, quiz results and streaks
- Reminders and calendar events you create
- Likes, "not interested" choices and reports on short videos
- Feedback you send us, with a screenshot if you attach one
5.2 What the app collects automatically
- Security checks: a random installation ID made by the app, and the phone platform's app-genuineness check result that tells our server the request comes from the genuine app. These are used only to protect the Service.
- Notifications: if you allow notifications, a push notification token for your device.
- Usage analytics (optional): which screens and features are used, through our analytics provider, linked only to a random account ID. Never your name, mobile number, email, or the text of your questions and answers. You can turn it off in the app under Profile > Privacy Policy.
- Crash reports (optional): crash details and performance timings (for example how long a screen took to load), through our crash-reporting provider, with personal details removed. You can turn it off in the same place.
- Network data: like every internet service, our servers and hosting providers see your IP address and device type when the app connects. We use them only to deliver the Service and protect it from attacks.
5.3 Permissions on your phone
- Microphone and speech recognition: only when you ask a question by voice (see section 7).
- Photos: only when you choose a profile photo or attach a screenshot to feedback, and to save a naam-writing image you create.
- Notifications: for reminders and updates you turn on.
We do not collect your location, contacts or advertising identifier.
6. How we use your data
- To create your account, sign you in and keep your session secure
- To answer your questions with the AI assistant
- To save your progress, bookmarks and counts and show them on any device you sign in on
- To send the reminders and notifications you turn on
- To protect the Service from abuse, fraud and attacks
- To find and fix problems and to improve the quality of AI answers
- To reply when you contact us or send feedback
7. AI assistant and voice questions
- Before your first question, the app asks for your permission to send questions to an AI service. Nothing is sent until you agree.
- Your question, and the recent messages of the same chat, go toGranthVani AI on our servers, which searches the scriptures and writes the answer. The service providers that run it process the text only to produce the answer for us.
- Answers are written from scripture passages and show their sources, but AI can make mistakes. Every answer is marked as AI-generated and has a Report button. Please do not include personal details in your questions.
- Your chat history is saved to your account so you can come back to it. You can delete a chat at any time.
- To check and improve answer quality, we keep a private record of each question and answer (with technical details such as which passages were used and how long it took) for 30 days. After that it is moved into an encrypted archive that only we can open, and deleted after 1 year.
- Voice questions are turned into text by your phone's own speech recognition, which may process the audio on its servers. GranthVani receives only the text and does not keep the audio.
8. Where your data is stored and who processes it
Your account data is stored in our database in India (Mumbai). Trusted service providers process data on our behalf, only for the purposes above:
- Database: accounts, sign-in sessions and profile photos (India region)
- Servers and content delivery: our API, content delivery, encrypted archives, feedback screenshots and scripture search
- GranthVani AI: writes answers to your questions; our hosting also serves this website
- SMS: sends the sign-up and PIN-reset codes
- Notifications and app checks: deliver push notifications, confirm the app is genuine and, if you choose Google or Apple sign-in, confirm who you are
- Usage analytics (optional)
- Crash reports and performance data (optional)
Some of these providers may process data outside India. Each is bound by its own terms and privacy policy for the data it handles for us.
9. Security
- All connections use HTTPS/TLS; the app also checks our servers' certificates
- Your sign-in session is stored encrypted on your phone and is not included in device backups
- Database rules let each account read only its own data
- PINs are stored only as salted hashes
10. How long we keep data
- Account, chat history, bookmarks, progress, counts, reminders and settings: until you delete them or your account
- AI quality records: 30 days, then an encrypted archive deleted after 1 year (and when your account is deleted)
- Feedback: 1 year; video reports: 1 year after we have reviewed them
- Usage analytics: up to 1 year
- Used one-time-code records: 30 days
- Google and Apple sign-in details (name, email, account ID, encrypted Apple token): until you unlink the provider or delete your account. A one-way fingerprint of each sign-in token: a short time
11. Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app: Profile > Delete account. After you confirm, the deletion is scheduled for 24 hours later. Until then you can cancel it from the same screen. After 24 hours your account is deleted with your profile, profile photo, chat history, AI quality records and their archive, bookmarks, progress, counts, reminders, preferences, notification tokens and your Google and Apple sign-in details. If you used Sign in with Apple, the link is also cancelled at Apple. This cannot be undone.
